Jungle Boogie!

Thursday, August 11, 2011
Hey y'all!! I started back on Wednesday and have loved every single precious minute with my new first graders!! Seriously, they are the sweetest bunch!!

I had planned to post pics of my room last weekend, but instead spent every bit of my free time making labels and working in my classroom! It was a lot of work...AND a lot of fun!!

Here are a few pictures of my new jungle themed room. Let me warn you though...It isn't as elaborate as many jungle themed rooms out there. My district encourages us to only have educational decorations. Let's just say my room is a very simplified version of a jungle themed classroom...

The reading strategy posters above my board were created by Donna Glynn (Kinder Glynn) (love her). You can get them HERE!

My differentiated reading response station area....work in progress, but I think it's going to turn out cute!

Content Essential Question Ribbons inspired by Deanna Jump!! Does anyone use essential questions?

Here's a close up of what was on my students' desks before "Meet the Teacher". I used Cara Carroll's student info sheet (LOVED IT) and was inspired by her to create a jungle themed to-do list for my parents! You can check out Cara's back to school post with a bunch of awesome freebies HERE!

As you can see in the picture above, I gave each of my sweeties a cute animal print stationary set from Oriental Trading as a lil' welcome gift. They were a BIG hit!!

After our wonderful first day in first grade, I also treated my students to these ADORABLE jungle suckers (also from Oriental Trading)!!! They were an even BIGGER hit!!

Well, I better get into bed & rest up for the first Friday of the school year!! Hope y'all have a great weekend!!

What a fabulous post!! I loved reading about your classroom setup and first couple days of school. Your classroom looks great and I think it's great that your district has decor expectations. The first school that I taught at enforced the same expectation. We had to have a wall for each subject…because, walls that talk…teach. Hope you have a wonderful Friday and weekend! Don't work too hard.

I love everything! I am also doing a wild animal theme in kindergarten. Is there any way you could post a welcome to kindergarten card like you had for first grad? Thanks. :)

Your classroom is adorable and ideas oh-so-cute. I'm also using a jungle theme for my classroom in second grade. Is there any way you could make these available in editable (word) format so that I could change wording to second? Are these available on TPT? Thank you so much!

Wow! I stumbled upon your blog (I should be cleaning/doing laundry) and I am so GLAD I did. Your room is perfect. You have a theme but the theme doesn't SCREAM out at you. I like a classroom where the students "pop", not the decorations. I'll bet your group looks adorable here!!

Your room looks great! The whole first hallway of my school is using a jungle theme this year, and as soon as I saw this post I sent them the link!
